There are several types of extract from hemp used in cosmetics: Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil, which is Hemp seed oil, is extracted by cold-pressing hemp seeds.
Hemp oil is rich in properties that makes it a very effective moisturizer functioning as an emollient to soften and smoothen the skin. It is also high in essential fatty acids and other nutrients that keep the skin in a good condition. It can be used in lotions, creams, massage oils, facial serums, shampoos, conditioner, soaps and so on....
Unlike some other uses for the hemp plant, which utilize the stems for their fiber content, the personal care industry uses the seeds of the plant to extract its oils.
The plant’s oils also contain the very rare gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), with research showing it also has potential as a natural sunscreen product, working as a broad-spectrum UV skin protector.
In Chinese medicine and nutrition, hemp seeds have been used for more than 3000 years. Seeds are rich in vitamins A, C and E, and β-carotene, proteins (all essential amino acids), carbohydrates, fibers and minerals. The oil is obtained from seeds by cold pressing or by solvent extraction. This oil can also serve as a natural source of antioxidants (vitamin E).
Due to the fatty acid composition, it helps to improve skin problems in which the skin barrier is weakened.
What about hemp in cosmetic products?
In cosmetic products, oil from hemp seed is allowed. Any extracts, tinctures and oils from flowers or fruits are prohibited.

HEMP LOTION BAR
Recipe Ingredients:
Measure ingredients with a scale or precise measuring tool
• 2 oz. Shea Butter - Ultra Refined
• 2 oz. Cupuacu Butter
• 2 oz. Hemp Seed Oil - Virgin (Dark Green) • 2 oz. Beeswax - Ultra Refined & Bleached
• 4 ml(s) Fragrance Oil
Equipment
* (1) Stove Top or Hot Plate
*(1) Scale
*(1) Spoon or Spatula
*(1) Melting Pot or Double Boiler *(1) Stainless Steel Melting Pot
* molds of your choice
Directions:
- To stainless steel melting pot with pour spout, add beeswax and hemp seed oil. Heat on stove on low heat until melted.
- Reduce heat to low and add cupuacu butter. Let melt.
- Remove from heat and add shea butter. Allow shea to naturally melt.
- Add 4 ml of fragrance oil and mix well.
- Pour 1 ounce into each cavity and let harden.
- Remove from mold and place in shallow tin container.
- Remelt remaining butter and pour 1 ounce into three of the cavities of the mold, let harden.
- Remove from mold and place in the remaining 3 tins.
- Label product accordingly.
To use: Rub onto dry skin as needed.

HEMP FACIAL OIL
Recipe Ingredients:
Measure ingredients with a scale or precise measuring tool.
• 4 oz. Jojoba Oil - Golden • 1.7 oz. MCT - Mid Chain Triglycerides Liquid
• 1 oz. Meadowfoam Seed Oil
• 1 oz. Hemp Seed Oil - Virgin (Dark Green)
• .1 oz. Rosemary Oleoresin Extract (ROE)
• .2 oz. Botanical Extract Blend 2 - Oil Soluble
Equipment: * (1) Measuring Cup with spout
* (1) Spoon * (1) Scissors * (1) Scale - Digital Display
* (4) 1 Bottle 02 oz Amber Boston Round Plastic Bottle - 20/410 * (4) 1 Piece 20/410 White Petite Treatment Pump Top - Clear Cap
Directions:
- In a measuring cup with a spout, add oils, ROE, and botanical extract blend
- Stir well.
- Pour 2 ounces into each bottle.
- Clip dip tubes to proper length and apply cap.
- Label accordingly.
To Use: Rub a small amount onto skin in an upward motion.
