Titanium Dioxide is a fabulous natural element to use in your projects.  It adds opacity as it lightens other colors.  Of course, it can be used on its own-it is a pure white matte powder or liquid.  It can be used in resin or epoxy projects.  It can be used in lip balms and lip glosses or candles, slime or soaps.  It works to make water color or oil paints-if you use it in creams lotions or foundations, it adds some sun protection....in other words, this is an exremely versatile item to have in your crafting supply closet.

That being said, it is not always the easiest ingedient to use.  It is a dense mineral compound with a sticky surface.  It is a dream in some formulations and a nightmare in others.  It can beautifully lighten your lip glosses or form small, little white dots that are difficult to get rid of.

Some tips for using this ingredient:

using it as a powder:

1.  spritz with a 99% alcohol spray-this helps keep it from clumping

2.  blend it with rice powder-it helps keep it from sticking and clumping and gives it a finer texture

3.  be aware that blending it with another powder, to lighten that powder's tone, not to use too much because the titanium dioxide can overtake the colored powder, when it is wetted, and you may only see white

4.  the easiest way to blend it with another powder is with the back of a spoon-that helps to break it up and blend the colors together better

using it in a liquid form:

1.  it will usually separate in the bottle-this is no big deal...just shake or stir to redistribute the powder in the liquid

2.  too thick?  Add more oil....too thin?  add more powder

3.  small clumps?  Try heating your wet batch and then mixing with a hand mixer using a whisk attachment

4.  can't get rid of those small clumps and you don't want to trash what you have mixed up?  Consider mixing in glitter, flake mica or mylar shreds to disguise the titanum dioxide bits...
